WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

A chemical peel involves the professional application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the skin to deeply exfoliate and reveal a new layer of skin.

Chemical peels improve the overall health of the skin as well as correct concerns such as uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and acne.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED: Dr GRANDEL

Why should I have a chemical peel?

The words "chemical" and "peel" are probably the main reason some people are afraid, possibly because they envision industrial-strength chemicals being used on their skin. The reality is that most chemical peels are derived from natural sources – glycolic acid from sugar cane, lactic acid from milk and salicylic acid from the bark of a willow tree. Chemical peels have many benefits and can improve the appearance of the skin as well as create a smooth and radiant complexion.

Will it make my skin thinner?

This is a common misconception, but in fact, the opposite is true. While they remove dead layers of skin cells from the surface, the inflammatory response that this action creates, stimulates healing and the regeneration of new and healthier skin cells.

Are peels a once off treatment?

Having a peel, will have a visible effect on your skin’s appearance but for optimal results, we recommend a course of 4-6 treatments (once every 4 weeks) or as prescribed by your Deluxe skin expert.

Are there complexions for which AHAs are especially suited?

The new generation of pH-optimized fruit acids encapsulated in liposomes of the Dr. Grandel-brand were subjected to serial testing in the dermatological department of the Augsburg hospital. It was concluded that the new generation AHAs are not only extremely well tolerated but also serve to significantly reduce fine line depth.

Are AHAs sometimes contraindicated? What are the concerns when following an AHA regimen?

Anyone with healthy skin that is not especially sensitive can use DR. GRANDEL AHA peelings. If there are abnormal changes to the skin, a dermatologist should always be consulted. Let me add that during an AHA regimen, sun and UV light should be avoided, as well as tanning beds. For outdoor activities, UV protection is an absolute must during AHA treatment.

The AHA peelings from DR. GRANDEL were clinically tested. What does this mean? What test methods were used?

First of all, a distinction must be made between skin tolerability tests and effectiveness tests. In skin tolerability tests, the products are tested on volunteer test subjects over a period of 72 hours. The products are applied to the skin on the subject’s back under exclusion of air. If the skin does not react during this 72-hour period, the product can be classified as well tolerated. For most of the available effectiveness tests, the product is applied as recommended for a period of 28 days. Initial measurements are taken, followed by measurements on the14th and 28th days after application. Depending on the expected effect (for example, skin smoothness or line depth), the latest instrumentation technologies can then be used to measure the specific skin parameters.

How long will it take for me to see results?

Short Term: Your client will see immediate results – an instant, healthy glow and softer skin. Long Term: With regular treatments and the appropriate pre- and post-peel at home care, your client will continue to see dramatic results – softer, smoother skin with a more even-toned, clear complexion.
